Ogun Police Deny Banditry in Dredging Attack Killing Soldier

The Ogun State Police Command has refuted claims of banditry following an attack at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, which resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to another.

Police Clarify Incident

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the details in a statement released in Abeokuta on Monday. He stated that the incident was an isolated criminal attack and not linked to banditry, contrary to rumors circulating on social media and elsewhere.

According to Babaseyi, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, quickly mobilized to the scene and launched coordinated operations to apprehend the perpetrators. “Preliminary findings do not indicate any connection between the incident and banditry activities in Ogun State. Investigations and tactical operations remain ongoing,” he noted.

Casualties and Response

The attack left one soldier dead, while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. The command assured residents that the situation is under control, security presence has been reinforced, and there is no cause for alarm.

Babaseyi urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause panic. He emphasized that security agencies are working diligently to bring the culprits to justice.
