BENCCIMA to Link Local Producers with Global Market Through 2026 Trade Fair

The Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA) has confirmed that the upcoming Edo State 2026 Trade Fair will serve as a crucial platform to connect local farmers and producers with the global market. This initiative aims to address long-standing gaps in export opportunities and enhance economic growth in the region.

Pre-Launch Announcement and Objectives

Dr. Jonathan Oboite, the Director of the 2026 Trade Fair and Second Deputy President of BENCCIMA, made this announcement during a pre-launch dinner held in Benin over the weekend. The trade fair is scheduled to take place in November and December 2026, with a primary goal of bridging the divide between local agricultural and production sectors and international markets.

Oboite emphasized that while Edo State has a history of organizing trade fairs, the 2026 edition requires enhanced collaboration to achieve success. He highlighted the persistent challenges faced by local producers, stating, "The lacuna that exists between raw materials and finished products, and exporting products from our farmers has existed for so long. So, the Chamber has decided to step up and take that responsibility to ensure that products from local farmers and producers get abroad if necessary."

He further explained that BENCCIMA plans to support farmers through education and orientation programs, aiming to improve livelihoods and foster a safer economic environment. "We want to help them. We want to educate them, give them orientation, and make life better for everyone. An economically safe society is a better society," Oboite added.

Strategic Goals and Expected Outcomes

In his welcome address, BENCCIMA President Omoregie Godwin outlined the broader objectives of the trade fair. He described it as a multifaceted platform designed to drive market expansion, attract investments, promote product innovation, and facilitate technology transfer. Key focus areas include:

  • Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
  • Job creation through direct and indirect employment opportunities
  • Export promotion to boost international trade

Godwin detailed specific sectors that will be showcased, such as agro-processing, solid minerals, light manufacturing, and digital innovation. The fair will also provide SMEs with increased visibility and structured business exposure, enabling meaningful Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) engagements.

Additionally, the event aims to stimulate tourism and hospitality activities in Edo State, further contributing to economic diversification. By attracting investors into priority sectors, BENCCIMA hopes to catalyze sustainable growth and enhance the global competitiveness of local industries.

This initiative underscores BENCCIMA's commitment to leveraging trade fairs as strategic tools for economic development, ensuring that Edo State's agricultural and production sectors are well-positioned to thrive in the global marketplace.
