Kaduna State is poised for a major economic transformation with a massive agricultural investment expected to yield significant financial returns and job creation. Governor Uba Sani has announced that a proposed $200 million Mega Poultry Project will generate no less than $450 million in annual revenue and create over 350,000 jobs for the people of the state and beyond.
Project Details and Strategic Alignment
Governor Sani revealed these projections during a crucial meeting with the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhar Maiha, held on Thursday, January 15, 2026. The purpose of the meeting was to ensure seamless alignment between federal and state government efforts ahead of the project's official groundbreaking ceremony.
The governor expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for selecting Kaduna State as the pioneer location for this national initiative. He emphasized that the project's core objectives extend beyond economics. The mega poultry venture is designed to strengthen Nigeria's food security, empower local smallholder farmers, and strategically position Kaduna as a leading hub for modern agribusiness across the African continent.
NASENI's Parallel Push for Agricultural Innovation
In a complementary move to bolster the nation's agricultural sector, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has also commenced a significant project. The agency has begun construction of a state-of-the-art Agricultural Incubation Centre at the University of Abuja's campus in Gwagwalada.
This centre, situated on a 10-hectare plot of land, is conceived as a comprehensive, technology-driven commercial hub. It will integrate multiple facets of modern farming, including:
- Poultry production for broilers and layers
- Aquaculture for catfish and tilapia
- Crop cultivation supported by drip irrigation
- Research-based innovation in a tissue culture lab
Upon completion, it is intended to serve as a model facility for replication across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
Building a Sustainable Agribusiness Ecosystem
Dr. Abdulrasheed Agavah, the Acting Coordinating Director of the Engineering Infrastructure Directorate at NASENI Headquarters, elaborated on the centre's components. He stated that the facility will include an agribusiness training and incubation centre, three commercially sustainable production centres, a high tunnel greenhouse farm, and an administrative block.
"This integration of modern agricultural technologies is aimed squarely at increasing food production and supporting Nigeria's food security agenda," Dr. Agavah explained. The parallel development of the Kaduna mega poultry project and the NASENI incubation centre highlights a concerted, multi-pronged approach by both state and federal agencies to revolutionize agriculture in Nigeria, turning it into a knowledge-based, high-yield, and job-creating industry.
