Governor Mbah's Infrastructure Drive Spurs 2.5km Road Linking Three Enugu Communities
The infrastructure push of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is beginning to yield significant results at the grassroots level, as a 2.5-kilometer road project connecting three rural communities in the state approaches completion. This development highlights the governor's aggressive investment in infrastructure, aimed at fostering economic growth and improving livelihoods.
Project Details and Impact
Speaking on the progress, Peter Eze, the Commissioner representing Enugu State at the Federal Character Commission, explained that the road links Aji, Isiugwu, and Ufodo communities in Igboeze North Local Government Area. The project extends connectivity toward neighboring Kogi State and is expected to significantly enhance access to farms, schools, and businesses. Eze, who also chairs the commission's committee on Works, Transport and Aviation, noted that construction is already at an advanced stage, with the first kilometer nearing completion.
Asphalt laying is anticipated to commence soon, after which the project will move toward commissioning. The road is being constructed with integrated drainage systems to ensure durability and address erosion concerns, which have been a longstanding issue in the area.
Government Support and Community Response
Eze clarified that the project is not self-funded but has been facilitated through government channels, leveraging his office to attract federal intervention. He emphasized that Governor Mbah has shown a clear commitment to development, particularly in road infrastructure, and that federal officials are taking cues from this vision to support local communities.
Residents of the benefiting communities have warmly welcomed the development, describing it as timely given the persistent challenges with poor road access. Farmers and traders, in particular, have expressed optimism that improved connectivity will boost their livelihoods and unlock rural development potential.
Broader Infrastructure Initiatives
This road project adds to a growing list of infrastructure initiatives under Mbah's administration, which has prioritized road construction as a key pillar of development in Enugu State. Eze stressed that road infrastructure remains central to economic growth, noting that enhanced connectivity will drive progress in various sectors.
In related developments, Eze also commended the scholarship programme of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, describing it as impactful and increasingly inclusive, especially for the South-East region. He highlighted improved participation from the area, attributing it to growing confidence in the scheme's transparency and effectiveness.
Oversight and Compliance
On oversight matters, Eze stated that the Federal Character Commission has intensified engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). He warned that non-compliance with federal character principles could result in sanctions, including potential legal action, to ensure equitable representation and resource distribution.
Overall, the 2.5-kilometer road project symbolizes a tangible step forward in Enugu State's development agenda, driven by collaborative efforts between state and federal authorities to address infrastructure deficits and promote sustainable growth.
