The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Nigeria National Accreditation System (NiNAS) have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen institutional cooperation in advancing quality, standards, accreditation, and conformity assessment systems in Nigeria. This significant milestone for the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) follows a high-level strategic engagement between the Director General/Chief Executive of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, and the Director General of NiNAS, Celestine Okanya, alongside their respective management teams.
Shared Commitment to Quality
At the meeting, both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s quality ecosystem in support of national development priorities and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration in areas including accreditation support, conformity assessment, capacity building, technical cooperation, and the promotion of internationally accepted quality practices.
Complementary Roles
Both parties acknowledged that their respective roles within the National Quality Infrastructure are distinct yet complementary. They reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the independence, impartiality, and integrity of accreditation in line with international best practices and ISO/IEC 17011 requirements.
This partnership is expected to enhance the quality of goods and services in Nigeria, boost consumer confidence, and facilitate trade by aligning local standards with global benchmarks. The collaboration will also support the development of a robust quality culture across various sectors of the economy.
