Air Peace has expanded its fleet with the acquisition of a Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, further strengthening its operational capacity and meeting rising passenger demand across domestic and regional markets.
New Aircraft Details
In a statement, Air Peace's Communication Manager, Efe Osifo-Whiskey, confirmed that the new aircraft, registered as 5N-CGD, landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Sunday. The Boeing 737-800NG is configured with 189 economy class seats, designed to deliver enhanced passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and scheduling flexibility.
The aircraft features a spacious cabin layout, generous overhead storage, advanced avionics, modern safety systems, and fuel-efficient engines, making it one of the world's most dependable narrow-body aircraft. Osifo-Whiskey noted that the fuel-efficient performance supports lower operating costs and reduced carbon emissions, aligning with Air Peace's commitment to sustainable aviation.
Lagos-Barbados Route Launch
Air Peace also operated its first scheduled commercial flight from Lagos to Barbados, marking a direct air service between Nigeria and the Caribbean. The historic flight, operated on a B777 aircraft on Sunday, departed Lagos with over 284 passengers on board. Dignitaries included Air Peace Chief Commercial Officer Nowel Ngala, High Commissioner of Barbados to Nigeria Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, and Nigerian actress Temitope Olowoniyan.
Osifo-Whiskey emphasized that the service addresses long-standing travel challenges such as multiple stopovers, lengthy transit times, and complex visa requirements. The route is expected to boost tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange between West Africa and the Caribbean.
Return Service and Future Plans
Following the inaugural flight, Air Peace operated the first commercial return service from Barbados to Lagos on Monday. Subsequent flights are planned twice monthly, establishing the route as a growing air bridge between the regions.
