The Lagos State Government has announced plans to automate its pilgrimage registration system, aiming to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and eliminate challenges associated with manual processing. This was disclosed on Friday during the ongoing 2026 ministerial press briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term.
Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, stated that the automation will simplify registration procedures for intending pilgrims and improve operational efficiency within the ministry. Additionally, the ministry will strengthen media engagement across various platforms and sustain tourism officers at local councils as grassroots ambassadors for pilgrimage services.
Layode emphasized the government's commitment to promoting religious harmony through collaboration with faith-based groups and organizations across the state. He revealed that in the past year, the ministry received 68 applications for processing, with 20 applicants cross-examined for naturalisation and special immigrant status. Furthermore, 112 new applications were received from money lenders, while 214 existing operators renewed their licences.
