Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of defender Andy Robertson on a free transfer. The 32-year-old Scotland international will join the club on July 1 once his contract with Liverpool expires.
Robertson's Move to Spurs
The left-back, who has been a key figure for Liverpool over the past eight years, will bring a wealth of experience to a Tottenham side that narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League this season. Spurs finished just two points above the relegation zone, prompting manager Roberto De Zerbi to strengthen his squad to prevent a similar struggle next term.
Robertson recorded a video message for Tottenham fans, which the club posted on social media. In the video, he said: 'Hi Tottenham fans, it's me, Andy Robertson here, as you can see, I'm not in Glasgow, I'm in America just now preparing for the World Cup. But I just wanted to send you a message to say I cannot wait to play for you guys, I cannot wait to meet you guys, and I cannot wait to play in the stadium for the first time in front of you. I'm already looking forward to next season. All the best and I'll see you soon.'
De Zerbi's Praise for Robertson
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed his delight at the signing, stating: 'Andy is someone I've admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team. He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch. I can't wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him.'
Robertson's Liverpool Legacy
Robertson became one of the world's best left-backs after his bargain £8 million move from Hull City in 2017. During his time at Liverpool, he won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Club World Cup, among other honors. He made 378 appearances for the Reds, scoring 11 goals and providing 63 assists. However, last season he was limited to just 11 Premier League starts due to injuries and competition for places.
The Scotland captain is currently with his national team preparing for the 2026 World Cup, and he will link up with his new teammates after the tournament.
