The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Innocent Barikor, has declared that the agency will demonstrate uncommon resolve to protect Nigeria's environmental ecosystem.
In a statement issued in Abuja to commemorate the 2026 Workers Day, Barikor saluted all staff members who give meaning to the agency's mandate, from headquarters to zonal offices, state field offices, operational areas, and laboratories.
He acknowledged that their role as environmental police is challenging, stating, "Yet, with your professionalism, courage, and sacrifice, we have navigated difficult terrains and met the expectations of Nigerians, even in the midst of limited resources."
Barikor thanked workers for their integrity and commitment, urging them to work together. He highlighted key initiatives, including expanding the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Programme and enforcing National Environmental Regulations.
The NESREA boss noted that the agency has been sensitizing Nigerians across the country on environmental sustainability and maintaining the integrity of biodiversity.
"As we mark this year’s Workers Day, we reaffirm our commitment to staff welfare, improved conditions of service, and training opportunities. We urge all to recommit to values like discipline, dedication, and due diligence in service to humanity," he added.
