Segilola Resources Hosts 2000+ Children in Osun for Festive Community Celebration
Segilola Resources Celebrates Christmas with Host Communities

Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), the pioneering operator of Nigeria's inaugural commercial gold mine, has concluded a year of significant community impact with a grand Christmas celebration. The event brought festive joy to more than 2,000 children and their families across its host communities in Osun State.

A Festive Gathering for Community Unity

The celebratory event, held on December 20th at the Iperindo town hall, served as a vibrant demonstration of SROL's ongoing dedication to its host communities. Organized in partnership with SINIC Engineering and GBfoods, the family-focused gathering featured music, games, performances, and generous gift distributions. This marked the fifth edition of the annual Christmas party and family fun day, reinforcing themes of partnership and shared joy.

Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, the Community Development and Stakeholder Manager at Segilola Resources, emphasized the event's deeper purpose. She stated that the celebration was a way to share joy and reaffirm the company's commitment to building relationships based on trust, inclusion, and shared value. She noted that such moments are crucial for strengthening community bonds, which enable long-term positive impact.

Beyond the Party: A Year of Tangible Impact

The Christmas festivities were the culmination of a year filled with substantial community engagement programs across Osun State. SROL's 2025 initiatives were strategically focused on several key areas of development:

  • Economic Empowerment: The company provided business and digital skills training for over 200 women. Its Livelihood Restoration Programme (LRP) supported local farmers with high-yield cocoa and oil palm seedlings.
  • Healthcare: Medical resources reached more than 3,000 people, and the company launched SegunCare, a program designed to support community residents managing chronic health conditions.
  • Cultural Support: SROL acted as a corporate sponsor for the Iwude Festival, a major annual cultural event for the Ijesha people, demonstrating its support for local heritage.

In addition to the main celebration, SROL spread Christmas cheer by sponsoring the decoration of a roundabout and flyover in Oshogbo and distributing end-of-year gifts within its host communities.

National Recognition for Sustainable Practices

The company's dedicated efforts in responsible community engagement and operational excellence did not go unnoticed. In November 2025, Segilola Resources earned multiple prestigious national awards, validating its leadership role in Nigeria's mining sector.

The accolades included the Community Development Champion of the Year award at the CSR Reporters' Social Impact and Sustainability Awards (SISA). Furthermore, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment honored the company with the "Award of Excellence: Upholding the Principle of Decent Work." The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) also bestowed upon SROL the "Distinguished Corporate Award."

By placing its host communities at the heart of its operations, Segilola Resources is building a legacy that extends far beyond gold extraction. The festive celebration in Iperindo was a fitting and joyful conclusion to an award-winning year, setting a benchmark for sustainable and socially responsible mining in Nigeria.
