Popular Nigerian businessman and cryptocurrency trader, Blord, has issued a bold N500,000 challenge to individuals accusing him of running scams through his applications. This comes amid controversy surrounding the launch of his new initiative designed to assist Nigerians with upcoming tax changes.
The N500k Dare and App Launch Controversy
The businessman, whose real name is Linus Williams, made the offer public via his Instagram page. He directly addressed those who consistently claim he has defrauded them through his platforms. Blord dared accusers to visit any of his offices nationwide, present verifiable claims, and record the process on video. He promised a payout of N500,000 as "inconvenience" compensation if any claim is proven true.
This fiery response was triggered by allegations that followed the unveiling of his new application. The app, launched as the federal government prepares for a major tax overhaul, allows users to receive cryptocurrency payments using only an email, without requiring Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN). The Blord Group claims it will handle taxes on large transactions under Nigeria's new rules, which are set to tax crypto profits up to 25%.
Backdrop of Nigeria's 2026 Tax Reforms
The launch of Blord's service is directly linked to the impending tax reforms scheduled to commence on January 1, 2026. This new system, aimed at redefining taxation for individuals and businesses, has been a topic of heated national debate. While some critics accused Blord of creating a tool for tax evasion, his camp presented it as a solution for seamless compliance, particularly for crypto transactions.
The mixed public reception highlights the tension and uncertainty surrounding the upcoming fiscal policy changes and how entrepreneurs are positioning themselves within this new landscape.
Mixed Reactions from the Public
Public reaction to Blord's N500k challenge has been sharply divided, as seen in comments compiled from social media.
Some users came to his defense. User ezeaku_tv commented, "If vdm can not find any stain on u to drag u with…Nwanne you white like snow and i respect you for that." Another, mr_charisma001, simply stated, "I believe you my boss."
However, skepticism remains high. User okezie_collins_aghabanti warned others, "Blord na yahoo no put your money on his app. Because you go cry." Similarly, realstriker40 remarked, "Baba think sey him don cover all loop holes U go cry," suggesting the challenge might be a strategic bluff.
Other comments questioned his motives. zinlexchukky asked, "Why are you so desperate to be talked about? Less the noise and enjoy ur money. Your source of income isn't clear enough so try to be private and be happy."
In a related act of public engagement, Blord was also reported to have distributed 3,000 bags of rice to villagers in his hometown of Ebenebe, Anambra State, during the 2025 Christmas celebrations. This philanthropic gesture, a yearly event at his mansion, contrasts with the allegations of fraudulent activity, painting a complex picture of the 27-year-old entrepreneur's public persona.
The situation continues to develop as the public awaits whether any individual will step forward to accept the N500,000 dare and provide concrete evidence against the crypto businessman.
