The African Development Bank Group President, Sidi Ould Tah, has stated that 12 of the world's 20 fastest-growing economies are located in Africa. He made this announcement during the inauguration of the 2026 African Economic Outlook at the ongoing AfDB Annual Meetings in Brazzaville on Tuesday.
Economic Resilience Amid Global Challenges
Tah emphasized that African economies continue to demonstrate resilience despite global geopolitical tensions, trade uncertainties, and declining development assistance. According to the report, Africa's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth stabilized at 4.3 percent in 2026 and is projected to rise to 4.5 percent in 2027.
Growing Economic Dynamism
This performance highlights the continent's growing economic dynamism in a challenging global environment. Africa's GDP per capita growth has also continued to improve, reflecting positive trends across the region.
Foreign Direct Investment Surge
Foreign direct investment rebounded strongly in 2024, increasing by 75 percent to $97 billion, according to Tah. This significant inflow underscores growing investor confidence in African markets.
