EKEDC Announces Seven-Day Planned Power Outage in Apapa, Lagos for Critical Network Upgrades

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has issued a formal notice regarding a planned power outage that will affect several communities in Apapa, Lagos, for a duration of seven days. This disruption is scheduled to occur from Thursday, April 16, 2026, through Wednesday, April 22, 2026, as part of essential network upgrade works aimed at enhancing electricity distribution in the area.

Details of the Planned Power Disruption

According to the official statement released by EKEDC, the power outage will take place daily between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. during the specified week. The primary reason for this temporary shutdown is to facilitate the relocation of 33kV feeder cables and two 15MVA 33kV transformer cables to new junction chambers and a switch room at the Apapa Transmission Station. This upgrade is a critical component of ongoing efforts to strengthen the electricity distribution network and improve overall service delivery for residents and businesses in Apapa.

Affected Areas and Feeders

Customers connected to specific feeders will experience interruptions in their electricity supply during the outage period. The affected feeders include Brosset, Shell Tank, Mobil, Central, Plaza, NIMASA, Wharf Road, Commercial, Warehouse, Ajegunle Express, Boundary, Olodi, and Beachland. EKEDC has advised all customers in these areas to make necessary arrangements in advance to mitigate the impact of the daily power disruptions.

Official Statement and Apology

In its notice, EKEDC expressed sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by the planned outage. The statement reads, "Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that there will be a planned power outage to enable the relocation of 33kV feeder cables and 2x15MVA 33kV transformer cables to the new junction chambers and switch room at Apapa Transmission Station. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period." This communication underscores the company's commitment to transparency and customer service while undertaking necessary infrastructure improvements.

Related Maintenance Activities by TCN

In a related development, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a separate maintenance exercise scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at its Lafia 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. This maintenance will occur from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and involves work on the 330kV APIR/Lafia Transmission Line 1 switchgears. However, TCN has clarified that there will be no loss of electricity supply during this period, as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will continue to off-take power from the substation to serve connected customers.

Previous Power Outage Reports

This announcement follows recent reports of other scheduled electricity disruptions in Nigeria. For instance, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) previously notified customers of a planned outage lasting approximately 19 hours in parts of Kogi State, affecting areas such as Lokoja, Konton Karfe, Naval Base, Banda, Felele, Army Barracks, and nearby communities. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges and maintenance needs within Nigeria's power sector as distribution companies work to upgrade infrastructure and enhance reliability.

Residents and businesses in Apapa are urged to plan accordingly for the seven-day power disruption, ensuring backup power sources or alternative arrangements are in place to minimize inconvenience during the upgrade period.
