Northeast States Face Power Outages as YEDC Plans 330kV Line Maintenance
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has issued a critical notice regarding scheduled power outages that will affect multiple states in Nigeria's Northeast region. This move is part of a strategic initiative to upgrade essential transmission infrastructure and enhance the reliability of electricity supply across the area.
Scheduled Maintenance Details
In an official statement released on April 8, 2026, YEDC disclosed that the planned outage will impact the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line, specifically identified as 2JOS-BAU-GMB1. The maintenance work is scheduled to commence on April 9, 2026, and will continue through May 22, 2026. Contractors from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will be responsible for executing the necessary upgrades along the 276-kilometer stretch of this critical power line.
Impact on Residents
Residents in Adamawa, Taraba, and Yobe states are expected to experience intermittent daytime power disruptions during the maintenance period. Specifically, outages will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with these interruptions happening at least four days per week. YEDC has emphasized that these temporary inconveniences are unavoidable but essential for achieving long-term improvements in the power supply network.
Precautionary Measures and Public Appeal
YEDC has urged customers to take proactive steps to safeguard electrical infrastructure, such as transformers within their communities, against potential vandalism during the outage windows. The company expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and appealed for public understanding, highlighting that the maintenance work is crucial for enhancing electricity reliability in the region.
For further information or to report issues, customers are advised to contact YEDC through its official customer service channels. This maintenance initiative underscores ongoing efforts to address infrastructure challenges and improve power distribution in Northeast Nigeria.
