Federal Government Transfers 200 Housing Units to Kwara State in Landmark Handover
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, has officially handed over 200 units of semi-detached houses to the Kwara State Government. This transfer occurred under the National Housing Programme (NHP) Estate, with all financial obligations fully settled, as confirmed during the ceremony held at the estate in Ogbondoroko, Asa Local Government Area.
Minister Highlights Milestone in Affordable Housing Drive
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, described the handover as a major milestone in the government's efforts to expand access to affordable housing and strengthen collaboration with state governments. Represented by the Director of Public Buildings, Musa Abdullahi, the Minister emphasized that this gesture underscores the Federal Government's resolve to bridge the housing deficit through the National Housing Programme. He noted that fostering strong partnerships with state governments is crucial to delivering affordable homes to Nigerians across the country.
Minister Dangiwa further highlighted that providing affordable housing remains a key priority for the Federal Government. This initiative aims not only to address housing shortages but also to generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth, contributing to broader national development goals.
State Government Commended for Commitment
At the handover event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, represented by Dr. Nasamu Yakub, commended the Kwara State Government for its commitment and prompt fulfillment of all financial obligations. This cooperation facilitated the successful transfer of the housing units, demonstrating effective intergovernmental coordination.
On behalf of the Governor, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Segun Ogunsola, received the houses and expressed appreciation for the Federal Government's initiative. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to providing housing for its citizens and emphasized readiness to ensure the effective utilization of the estate.
Hon. Ogunsola assured that these housing units will be effectively managed and allocated to improve the living conditions of the people in Kwara State, highlighting the collaborative effort to enhance community welfare.

The Housing Ministry reiterated its commitment to expanding access to decent and affordable housing nationwide through strategic partnerships and sustained implementation of housing programmes.
