Lagos Delivers 10,623 Housing Units in Seven Years

The Lagos State Government has announced that more than 14,000 housing units are expected to be delivered across the state before the end of 2026. This initiative aims to address the growing housing deficit and expand access to affordable homes for residents.

Commissioner's Disclosure

Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made this known during the ministerial press briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term. He stated that the administration has intensified housing development through direct government intervention and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives.

Housing Delivery Progress

Akinderu-Fatai revealed that the state government has delivered 10,623 housing units over the past seven years. Ongoing projects are expected to raise the total to 14,022 units upon completion.

  • LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase II: 528 units
  • Epe Housing Scheme: 112 units
  • LagosHOMS Ibeshe Phase II: 192 units
  • Workers' Village, Ipaja: 176 units

Most projects are at advanced stages and expected to be delivered before end of 2026. The government is also implementing joint venture housing projects in strategic locations to increase housing stock and reduce accommodation pressure from rapid urbanisation.

Housing Deficit Challenge

Lagos faces an estimated housing deficit of over 3.3 million units, making it the epicentre of housing demand in Nigeria. The government's strategy focuses on increasing supply, promoting affordability, and encouraging private sector participation.

Two housing estates commissioned in 2025—Akinsanya Sunny Ajose Estate Phase I and Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate Joint Venture Scheme—have already added hundreds of affordable homes.

Economic Impact

The ongoing housing projects are generating employment for artisans, suppliers, and professionals in the construction sector, contributing to economic growth. The Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to reducing barriers to home ownership and ensuring quality housing for all residents.
