The Ogun State Government has set an ambitious target to construct and deliver an additional 3,000 units of affordable housing across the state in the 2026 fiscal year. This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Jamiu Omoniyi, as he outlined the strategic roadmap for housing development.
Building on Past Success and Setting New Goals
Commissioner Omoniyi highlighted the state's recent achievements, noting the completion and delivery of 30 duplexes at the Ibara GRA Cluster 1 extension and 100 duplexes at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in the past year. He attributed these successes to coherent policies, disciplined execution, and strategic partnerships within the sector.
"Through these efforts, the sector has delivered developments that meet international standards while staying responsive to local realities," Omoniyi stated. He emphasized that these projects contribute significantly to job creation, wealth generation, and the overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Ogun State.
Legacy Projects and Strategic Expansions for 2026
Looking forward, the Commissioner revealed that the Ministry of Housing and the Ogun State Housing Corporation are prepared to scale up delivery through several key legacy projects. These projects are aligned with the state's 2026 Budget of Sustainable Legacy.
The major projects slated for execution in 2026 include:
- Construction of an International Conference Centre (GIA) at Iperu.
- A modern 2,500-seater Banquet Hall/Centre.
- The Appeal Court Headquarters and Residences.
- Ibara GRA Phase II, comprising 50 duplexes.
- Commissioners’ Quarters, Appointees’ Quarters, and Assembly Quarters.
Omoniyi explained that the state's housing vision extends beyond mere shelter. It encompasses dignity, functionality, sustainability, urban renewal, and inclusive economic growth for residents.
New Housing Estates Across the State
Beyond the legacy projects, the government plans to advance flagship housing developments in strategic locations. These new estates will include:
- Prince Courts Estate at Siun along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway.
- ISEYA Court, Oke-Mosan.
- Havila Court, Ibara.
- Havens Court, Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode.
The Commissioner also confirmed the continuation of the Regeneration Scheme for Ibara GRA through its second phase.
Overcoming Challenges and Reaffirming Commitment
Commissioner Omoniyi acknowledged that the housing sector faced challenges in 2025, including criticism and misinformation. However, he insisted that the administration remained focused on its core mandate of delivery.
"We choose facts over fiction, delivery over distraction, and results over rhetoric," he asserted.
He pointed to the ongoing Ibara GRA Urban Regeneration Project as a testament to the government's resolve. In that project, over 150 modern housing units have been delivered out of a planned 200-plus, revitalizing an area that had suffered from neglect and illegal occupation.
Reaffirming the state's broader objective, Omoniyi stated that Ogun remains on track to deliver over 10,000 affordable homes by the end of the current administration led by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun.
"Our mission remains clear and unwavering: to provide quality, affordable, and sustainable housing while positioning the Gateway State as a benchmark for Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria and beyond," the Commissioner concluded.
