FIRS Becomes NRS: Nigeria Launches New Revenue Service with Fresh Logo
FG Unveils New Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Identity

Nigeria has ushered in a new era for its national tax administration with the official launch of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), marking the complete transition from the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The historic rebranding, which includes a new corporate logo and identity, was formally unveiled at a ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

A New Chapter for Revenue Collection

The transformation from FIRS to NRS was set in motion after President Bola Tinubu signed the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025 into law in June of that year. This legislative action provided the legal backbone for restructuring the country's revenue collection framework. The NRS is now the fully operational, unified national body tasked with this critical function.

At the unveiling event, the Executive Chairman of the NRS, Zacch Adedeji, presented the new brand identity. He described the move as a significant milestone in reforming Nigeria's revenue management system. In a statement delivered by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, Adedeji emphasized that the new identity symbolizes a renewed pledge to efficiency and service.

"The unveiling of the NRS identity reflects a renewed commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system," Adedeji stated. He added that the rebrand is aligned with Nigeria's broader economic transformation goals and global best practices, aiming to foster institutional continuity while enhancing support for taxpayers and national development.

Nigerians React to the Rebranding

The announcement of the new NRS name and logo sparked a wave of reactions from citizens across social media platforms. While some welcomed the change as a step towards modernization, many focused on the practical implications for accountability and service delivery.

Key concerns and suggestions from the public included:

  • Transparency and Accountability: Users like @AyibiowuDonald and @activistmanny called for greater transparency, including publishing tax laws and ensuring tax revenues are not misappropriated.
  • Improved Service Tools: @JoshBiggs007 suggested the development of a comprehensive tax calculator app to help citizens accurately determine their liabilities.
  • Logo Design Feedback: Some, like @KunleAyuba, critiqued the new logo, suggesting it needed a more emblematic design befitting a government agency.
  • Cautious Optimism: Commenters such as @to37867_toyyib acknowledged the rebrand as positive but stressed that the true test will be in its execution, fairness, and tangible service improvements for every Nigerian taxpayer.

Building on a Record-Breaking Foundation

The launch of the NRS comes on the heels of a reportedly successful final year for the FIRS. Financial analyst Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, in a year-end review, noted that 2025 was a defining period for the agency. She highlighted that under Adedeji's leadership, the FIRS closed the year with record-breaking revenue of N22.59 trillion, landmark legal reforms, and deeper technology integration, setting a strong foundation for the newly constituted NRS to build upon in 2026.

The transition to the Nigeria Revenue Service represents more than a simple name change. It is a public declaration of intent to create a more effective and taxpayer-friendly institution. The success of this ambitious rebranding will ultimately be measured by its ability to gain public trust, streamline processes, and contribute robustly to Nigeria's economic growth in the years ahead.
