Abuja Podcaster Regrets Starlink, Details N800k Loss

Kel Armstrong Amobi, widely known as KAA, an Abuja-based podcaster and blogger, has expressed deep regret over his experience with Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite internet service. In a Facebook post on May 21, 2026, KAA shared a video demonstrating the difficulty and slow speed of uploading a file using his Starlink network. He described the service as terrible and warned others against wasting their money on it.

KAA's Starlink Experience in Abuja

KAA lamented that he has wasted over N800,000 on his Starlink device, calling it one of his financial mistakes of 2026. He stated, "Starlink is sh!t for upload in Abuja. Don't waste your money on it. The 800k+ I wasted on it is one of my financial mistakes this year. One hour later zero upload out of 20GB." Starlink officially launched in Nigeria in January 2023 after receiving regulatory approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Mixed Reactions from Social Media Users

KAA's post elicited a variety of responses. Some users offered suggestions to improve his experience, while others shared their own positive experiences with Starlink.

  • Sue Elechi advised: "Contact the seller or the installer to get it fixed. In my opinion, it is the best."
  • Emmanuel Kings recommended: "Get a different installer/expert to help you look at it again; maybe the problem might be from your installer."
  • Etukudo Etukudo Jr. noted: "Starlink upload speed is poor, but the download speed is king. For MTN fibre X, I'll advise you to find someone who currently uses it and test it out."
  • Daniel Anemhen suggested: "Check your Starlink alignment using the app. If it is more than 30%, consider buying a Starlink stand to increase speed."
  • Ogbonnaya Chinedu shared: "I use Starlink Gen 3 in my office in Aba, Abia state, and we have not experienced any downtime. Maybe your Starlink has a geographical issue, cell congestion, weather, or dish alignment problem."
  • Nkwegu Obumneme Benedict reported: "In Abakaliki, I'm getting less than 15 Mbps, which is very low for stable streaming."

Starlink's Premium Pricing in Nigeria

In related news, Legit.ng previously reported that Starlink introduced a Business Priority plan in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt starting February 14, 2026. The plan costs N159,000 per month (approximately $99) and aims to address the "Sold Out" notices for residential subscriptions in high-demand areas. In prime Lagos districts like Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, and Surulere, residential subscriptions remain unavailable.
