The 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival reached its peak last Saturday at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, drawing indigenes and guests in a vibrant celebration of heritage and ancestral pride. From the moment attendees arrived, the atmosphere was electric, with drums echoing through the stadium and voices rising in unison. Colorful attire and a palpable sense of unity defined the event.
Royal Presence and Cultural Highlights
One of the most memorable moments was the appearance of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin Ladoja. Seated with regal composure, he was dressed in white adorned with coral beads and holding a traditional horsetail, reminding all that the festival was a living testament to history. Another highlight was Nollywood actor Fatai Adetayo, known as Lalude, who captivated the crowd in full traditional costume, embodying the spirit of old Yoruba storytelling. His symbolic presence added a rich cultural layer to the festivities.
Fashion and Performances
The venue became a showcase of traditional fashion, with women in coordinated aso oke, gele, and beads, some carrying decorative fans inscribed with "Omo Ibadan." Men donned rich agbada and fila, each outfit meticulously styled, creating a moving exhibition of heritage. Performances bridged past and present, as drummers played talking drums with precision and performers reenacted warrior movements, drawing the audience deeper into the experience. The festival was a powerful display of unity, tradition, and pride.
