Apostle Chibuzor Details Response to Aboy's Abandonment at OPM Gate
The general overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Gift, has provided a comprehensive account of the actions he took when a child, now known as Aboy, was abandoned at the church's gate several years ago. In a viral video that emerged online, the pastor recounted the incident, which has gained renewed attention following Aboy's recent marriage to a woman from the congregation on March 29, 2026.
Immediate Police Involvement After Discovery
Apostle Chibuzor explained that upon learning of the abandoned child, his first step was to contact the police. "When they dumped him at the gate, I first called the police. The police came, carried the child, and made an official entry. They then took the child to a motherless babies' home," he stated. This highlights the formal procedures followed to address the situation, ensuring legal protocols were observed from the outset.
Rejection by Orphanages and Ongoing Care
However, the pastor revealed that the motherless babies' home rejected Aboy due to unspecified conditions, possibly related to health issues like autism. "Some motherless babies' homes accept them and keep them. There are many that have been sent there, but some with certain conditions, like autism and others, are rejected. I have a lot of autistic children in my house that I don't even know where they are from," he added. After the police returned Aboy to him, Apostle Chibuzor decided to take the child into his care, employing a caregiver and providing long-term support. He emphasized his lack of knowledge about Aboy's family or ethnic background, stating, "I don't know his family. I don't know if he's Igbo, Calabar, or Yoruba, I don't know."
Context of Aboy's Recent Marriage and Public Reactions
The video surfaced just days after Aboy's wedding, which has sparked discussions online, including legal concerns from a Nigerian lawyer about the marriage's validity. Apostle Chibuzor also mentioned that he cares for over 500 children who have been similarly abandoned at his gate over the years. Public reactions to his statements have been mixed, with some praising his humanitarian efforts, such as Precious Godwin who commented, "Pastor is our king, he's really a nice person and has helped a lot of people," while others, like Olanrewaju 25, made lighthearted remarks. The story underscores broader issues of child abandonment and the role of religious leaders in providing social support in Nigeria.
