The Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Georgia, United States, aimed at strengthening academic, research, professional, and institutional partnerships. The agreement encompasses staff mobility, student exchange programs, conferences, seminars, and joint grant initiatives, particularly involving ABUAD's College of Social and Management Sciences and other relevant faculties, institutes, and departments at the University of Georgia.
Details of the Agreement
In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, the MoU was signed by Prof. David Olali of the University of Georgia and ABUAD's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, in Ado-Ekiti. The agreement recognizes the mutual benefits for both institutions, including collaborative research, academic exchanges, and joint funding opportunities.
Scope of Collaboration
Olofintila highlighted that the partnership would involve joint applications for international research grants, fellowships, endowments, and donor-funded projects. The universities will collaborate on proposals to foundations, development agencies, and governmental and multilateral organizations. Additionally, they will establish collaborative research centers, innovation hubs, policy laboratories, and training workshops focused on grant writing, research management, and academic publishing.
Each institution will be responsible for funding its own participation in activities under the agreement, subject to fund availability and internal budgetary approvals.
Reactions from Officials
Prof. Olarinde described the development as inspiring and aligned with ABUAD's vision of maintaining excellence and institutionalizing qualitative, functional, and impactful education. She noted that research is expensive, making collaboration essential for adequate funding, and emphasized that universities worldwide benefit more from partnerships than from working alone.
Prof. Olali expressed excitement about being at ABUAD, affirming that the seriousness he observed in the 16-year-old university is unparalleled. He stated, "We will build on the good works you have already started. As a matter of fact, we met you in motion and so, it will not be difficult for us to join you in the race that you have already started." He added that he looks forward to an ambitious collaboration and hopes that universities in the Western world will soon emulate ABUAD as a pacesetter.
