The African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) has called for abstracts and research papers ahead of its 27th yearly international conference. The conference will focus on communication, advertising, film, marketing, and related fields.
Conference Theme and Objectives
Themed 'Communication, politics and intra-African dialogue,' the event aims to explore the role of communication in fostering unity across the continent. Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Bashir, President of ACCE Nigerian Chapter, noted that African unity has long been a desire expressed by many Africans from pre-colonial times to the present. He emphasized that unity is imperative due to shared history, identity, proximity, homophily, and other values that bind the continent's people together.
Barriers and Opportunities
While initiatives such as regional political and economic blocs, trade, sports, security cooperation, and other measures have been pursued, several barriers hinder intra-African relations. These include linguistic divides (anglophones, francophones, lusophones, arabo-phones), political or ideological differences, and economic disparities. Despite a shared destiny, cohesive relations remain challenging.
Prof. Bashir added, 'Communication and media have an important role to play in promoting intra-African unity through dialogue. While communication and media are tools, they are subject to political decisions, economic resources, and support. It is in view of this reality that ACCE Nigeria identified and selected the theme to present findings and scholarly brainstorm on the issue.'
Focus Areas and Submission Guidelines
The conference will cover several areas, including journalism and media studies, development communication, advertising and marketing communication, film and multimedia, and business and organizational communication. Prospective participants are expected to submit an abstract of 250 words or less. The deadline for submission is August 24, 2026.
Event Details
The conference will take place from November 10 to 13, 2026, at the Department of Mass Communication, Delta State Polytechnic Oghara, Delta State.
