The Franco-British International University (FBIU) in Kaduna has officially matriculated 362 students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a significant milestone in the institution's development. The maiden matriculation ceremony, held on Wednesday, drew parents, guardians, government officials, academics, invited guests, and well-wishers from across the country who gathered to witness the formal admission of the students into the university community.
Four Academic Schools
A member of the MAAUN Group of Universities, FBIU admitted students into four academic schools: the School of Nursing Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Computing, and the School of Social and Management Sciences.
President's Address
Speaking during the ceremony, the President of FBIU, Prof. Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, congratulated the matriculating students on behalf of the university management and the entire academic community. He described the occasion as a major milestone in the lives of the students and the history of the institution, noting that it formally marks the beginning of their academic journey at the university. “This ceremony signifies your official admission into the university community and the commencement of a new phase of learning, growth and personal development,” he said.
Founder's Charge
Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, charged the students to remain focused on their studies and avoid social vices that could derail their academic ambitions. He reiterated the institution's zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse and other forms of misconduct, stressing the university's commitment to maintaining a disciplined learning environment. Prof. Gwarzo said the institution remains dedicated to producing quality graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national and continental development. He also disclosed plans by the university to establish an Internationalisation Unit aimed at facilitating access to scholarships, academic exchange programmes, and other global learning opportunities for students.
Chancellor's Message
In his goodwill message, the Chancellor of FBIU, Senator Shehu Sani, urged the students to embrace discipline, integrity, and hard work throughout their academic journey. According to him, good character and academic excellence remain critical to maintaining the university's reputation and achieving personal success.
Other Speakers
Other speakers at the event included the President of MAAUN Nigeria, Prof. Mohammad Israr; the Registrar of MAAUN Niger and Nigeria, Dr. Shu'aibu Usman Tanko; and a representative of the Canadian University of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim. They described the students as fortunate to have secured admission into one of the emerging higher institutions in sub-Saharan Africa and encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities available within the university system.
EHCON Commendation
Also speaking, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), Dr. Baba Muhammad Yakubu, commended the university for offering programmes that are aligned with contemporary societal needs and global educational standards.
Matriculation Oath
The Vice President (Administration) of FBIU, who presided over the ceremony, administered the matriculation oath, formally admitting the students into the university community. The event marked the first matriculation ceremony of the university and underscored its commitment to expanding access to quality higher education while fostering academic excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness.
