Katsina Expands Automatic Job Policy to All First-Class Graduates Nationwide

The Katsina State Government has broadened its automatic employment policy to include all indigenes who earn first-class degrees from any recognized higher institution across Nigeria. Previously limited to graduates from institutions within Katsina State, the expansion now allows any Katsina indigene with a first-class degree to qualify for a government job, regardless of where they studied.

Governor Dikko Radda announced the policy change during the closing ceremony of the first Katsina State Students' Week held at Bayero University, Kano. According to a statement on the state government's website dated June 22, 2026, Radda said: "I am pleased to announce the expansion of our employment initiative. Previously, automatic job opportunities were offered to first-class graduates within the state. Today, I extend this to all first-class graduates from Katsina State across institutions nationwide."

Strengthening the Civil Service with Top Talent

The governor explained that the decision aims to strengthen the Katsina State civil service by attracting highly skilled graduates. "This is a deliberate effort to build a highly competent and competitive civil service that can rival any in the country, even at the federal level," he stated. Radda also commended Katsina students for their discipline, creativity, and academic excellence displayed during the Students' Week.

Scholarship Arrears Cleared from 2021 to 2026

In addition to the employment policy, Radda announced that scholarship payments covering 2021, 2022, 2023, and subsequent years up to 2026 have been fully cleared. The government continues to support students, including those studying abroad in fields such as Medicine, Artificial Intelligence, and Biotechnology. Katsina currently sponsors students in countries including Ethiopia and Russia, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and travel costs.

Over 10,000 Teachers Recruited and New Schools Built

Education remains a major focus of the administration, with more than 10,000 teachers recruited on merit and over 100 new secondary schools built. The state now manages over 3,000 primary schools and nearly 600 secondary schools, though growing student numbers are straining facilities. Radda recalled that 21 years ago, as a local government chairman, school infrastructure in his area increased from six to 36 classrooms, but the school still operates in shifts due to rising demand.

Smart Schools and Student Entrepreneurship

The governor introduced a modern smart school model to provide talented students, especially from rural communities, with merit-based access to quality education. He encouraged young people to turn ideas into businesses and directed the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency to support entrepreneurship and job creation. Radda also approved the establishment of Student Business Centres in institutions with existing programmes to foster student entrepreneurship.

Review of Student Welfare and Allowances

Radda said the administration is reviewing allowances for students in nursing and health-related institutions. He directed the Scholarship Board, the Ministry of Health, and the Head of Service to address concerns raised by students, particularly those in nursing and health technology programmes. "These children may not have the same opportunities, but many of them are highly talented and capable. It is our responsibility to support them so they can contribute meaningfully to society," he said.

Call for Positive National Image

The governor urged students to contribute to national development and avoid spreading negative narratives about Nigeria. "We have no other country but Nigeria. Whatever we say or do about our country ultimately affects us. We must all play our part in building a better society," he said. He also warned against the misuse of social media and encouraged responsible online engagement.
