Taraba Partners EIDU to Boost Learning for 10,000 Kids

The Taraba State government has entered into a partnership with EIDU to enhance learning outcomes for more than 10,000 children across two local government areas. This initiative leverages an innovative, AI-powered digital learning platform designed to combat learning poverty among school-age children.

Learning poverty, defined as the inability of a child to read and understand a simple English passage or solve basic math problems by age 10, remains a significant challenge nationwide. The programme began with the training of 500 teachers as master trainers, who will subsequently cascade their knowledge to other educators throughout the state.

Launch of the First Phase

Flagging off the first phase in Jalingo, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, described the project as a strategic intervention to modernize classroom delivery and improve learning outcomes. She stated, "This programme will equip our teachers with the digital skills and tools required to transform classroom instruction and deliver better results for our children." Jalingo and Ardo-Kola Local Councils have been selected as pilot centres for this initiative.

Under the initiative, the selected teachers will serve as master trainers, spreading their expertise to other educators across the state, thereby driving a broader transformation in teaching practices.

EIDU's Role and Government Support

EIDU, known for its strong track record in improving learning outcomes in underserved communities, is deploying its AI-powered digital learning solution in participating schools. Permanent Member II of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Zachariah John, called the programme "a bold step toward repositioning basic education in Taraba for the demands of a digital age."

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Idris A. Goje, noted that the rollout aligns with the education reform agenda of Governor Agbu Kefas, reflecting the governor's commitment to providing life-changing education for children across the state. Special Adviser on Education to the Governor, Samaila Dauda Agbu, emphasized the importance of investing in teachers as a pathway to improving student outcomes.

Future Expansion

The Taraba–EIDU partnership represents the first phase of a broader rollout that will be expanded to reach more children across the state in the coming months. This initiative marks a significant step towards leveraging technology to address educational challenges and improve learning outcomes for thousands of students.
