An Ebonyi State indigene, Obasi Victor Nnanna, who scored 356 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has been awarded a university scholarship by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. The minister described the achievement as excellent.

Umahi made the announcement shortly after receiving news of Nnanna's outstanding performance from the management of King David Gifted Academy in Abakaliki, where the student completed his secondary education. Nnanna scored an aggregate of 356 in the examination, comprising 98 in Mathematics, 98 in Physics, 91 in Chemistry, and 69 in English Language. This feat made him the highest-scoring UTME candidate in Ebonyi State and placed him among the top performers nationwide.
Background of the Beneficiary
The beneficiary is a member of the pioneer graduating class of King David Gifted Academy, an institution established in 2016 by Umahi during his tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State. The school was founded to promote academic excellence and nurture future leaders through quality education.

Speaking on the student's achievement, the Principal of King David Gifted Academy, Rev. Sis. Dr. Onyeukwu Veronica E., said Nnanna's success was the result of years of dedication, consistency, and commitment to learning. According to her, the student maintained an exceptional academic record throughout his stay in the school, consistently emerging first in his class from Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) to Senior Secondary School Three (SS3).
Academic and Leadership Excellence
She disclosed that Nnanna recorded cumulative averages of not less than 95 per cent in every academic term and represented the school in several local and national academic competitions, winning numerous awards and distinctions. “Obasi Victor Nnanna is an exceptionally brilliant student whose commitment to excellence has remained consistent over the years. His achievement in the 2026 UTME is a testament to his hard work, discipline and passion for learning,” she said. Beyond his academic exploits, Nnanna served as the Senior Prefect of the school and currently holds the position of Speaker of the Ebonyi State Children’s Parliament, reflecting what school authorities described as his outstanding leadership qualities. The principal noted that his success has become a source of inspiration to students within the school and across the state.
