Stakeholders have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Prof. Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). They described the decision as another bold statement of confidence in the excellence of young Nigerians. The appointment has sparked widespread discussion across education, policy, and technology sectors, not only because of Aina's age but also due to his extensive expertise, institutional experience, and reform credentials at a critical time for Nigeria's education system.
Merit-Driven Leadership
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that Aina's appointment underscores the administration's belief in merit-driven leadership and the importance of placing forward-thinking professionals in strategic public offices. He stated, "President Tinubu remains committed to building institutions that are efficient, transparent, and future-ready. Prof. Segun Aina's appointment reflects the administration's confidence in his exceptional academic background, technological expertise, and deep understanding of Nigeria's examination ecosystem."
Youth Empowerment and National Development
Onanuga further explained that President Tinubu believes national development requires a deliberate blend of experience, innovation, and generational inclusion. He added, "This administration recognizes that many young Nigerians are already demonstrating world-class competence across sectors. The President will continue to identify and empower capable professionals who can drive meaningful reforms and deliver measurable impact for the country."
The appointment of Prof. Aina, a 40-year-old scholar, technocrat, and examination systems expert, is seen as a strategic move to enhance the efficiency and transparency of JAMB, which is one of Nigeria's most critical educational institutions. Stakeholders have expressed optimism that Aina's leadership will bring about significant improvements in the examination system and contribute to the overall development of the education sector.
