According to an official statement released by the university's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Timilehin, a part-three student with matriculation number CLI/2022/133 from the College of Health Sciences, Department of Medicine and Surgery, died unexpectedly while asleep.
Preliminary reports from the university suggest the student might have passed away shortly after 2 a.m. This timeline is based on accounts from roommates, who indicated that the deceased was last seen alive when he opened the door for another student around that time.
