Alumni Association Calls for Emphasis on Discipline and Excellence in Educational Institutions
The Saint Patrick's College Asaba Old Boys Association (SPCOBA) has underscored the critical need for schools to prioritize the instillation of values centered on excellence and discipline in students, aiming to positively shape future generations. This significant message was delivered during the association's three-day national convention, which was held in Benin, Edo State, to commemorate the school's 82nd anniversary.
Reflecting on Alma Mater's Impact
The association paid heartfelt tribute to its alma mater, praising the institution for embedding values that have profoundly influenced the lives of its members. National President Tony Odiadi emphasized that the gathering served as a vital platform for alumni to reconnect and reflect on their formative experiences, which continue to guide them in their personal and professional endeavors.
"It is always an opportunity for us to bond, reminisce on childhood memories, and chart the way forward," Odiadi stated, highlighting the enduring camaraderie among former students.
Cosmopolitan Outlook and Moral Foundations
Francis Dike, President of the Lagos Branch, elaborated on the school's cosmopolitan outlook and its lasting impact on alumni. "The school gave us so much. It energised me and instilled values that remain with us today," he noted, underscoring the institution's role in fostering well-rounded individuals.
Acting Chairman of the Benin branch, Thomas Obanor, reinforced this sentiment by emphasizing the strong moral foundation laid by the school, which has equipped alumni with ethical principles essential for navigating life's challenges.

Kenneth Ihensekhien, Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, expressed immense joy at the reunion, noting that the event facilitated old classmates in reconnecting and rekindling friendships from their youth. The convention also featured virtual participation from notable figures, including former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba, who addressed national security issues.
Ezeoba stressed the importance of robust family systems and proactive measures, advising, "Prevention means being proactive, nipping threats in the bud before they occur. It is key to safeguarding our environment."
Cautionary Advice and Recognition
In a related discussion, Principal Attorney Kenneth Mozia of Mozia Lawyers urged Nigerians to exercise restraint in displaying wealth, warning of the harsh economic realities. "We must be careful in whatever we do. The times are hard, and we must acknowledge that," he cautioned, linking personal responsibility to broader societal stability.
The convention further included goodwill messages from other educational institutions and the presentation of awards of excellence to distinguished members, celebrating their contributions to society and the association.
