EKSU Chancellor Unveils Comprehensive Digital Transformation Drive

Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, the Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), has officially launched a series of ambitious digital initiatives designed to revolutionize the academic environment of the institution. The announcement was made during the university's 30th convocation ceremony, marking a significant step towards aligning EKSU with the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.

Project Digi-Teach EKSU: A Push for 100% Digital Proficiency

At the heart of this transformation is Project Digi-Teach EKSU, a program specifically crafted to ensure that all 650 lecturers at the university achieve complete digital proficiency. Dr. Olowolafe emphasized the critical importance of this initiative, stating that a university preparing students for the digital economy must itself be adept in digital technologies.

"We believe that a university that prepares students for the digital economy must itself be fluent in the digital world. You cannot teach what you do not know. You cannot give what you do not have. You cannot inspire a student to embrace the future if you are still uncertain about it," he declared.

This program aims to equip every faculty member, regardless of their discipline or academic rank, with the essential digital competencies required for modern teaching and learning methodologies. Dr. Olowolafe highlighted that this represents a more ambitious effort compared to previous initiatives, such as the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation's sponsorship of 37 lecturers to international conferences since 2024, by ensuring inclusive capacity development across the entire institution.

Bridging Academia and Industry Through Innovative Programs

In addition to the digital proficiency drive, the chancellor commended the EKSU Trading Room and Financial Market Trading Programme, which has evolved into a fully accredited diploma course. He paid special tribute to Professor Micheal Ojo Oke of the Faculty of Management Sciences for his pivotal role in initiating this project.

Established in 2025, this facility simulates a live trading floor, complete with modern equipment and advanced digital infrastructure. Currently, the program has 25 registered participants and operates in partnership with the CFA Institute of Nigeria through its Cavidex platform, providing students with hands-on experience in financial markets.

Global Partnerships and Virtual Work Experience

Dr. Olowolafe also revealed a groundbreaking achievement: EKSU has become the first African university to secure accreditation on Springpod, a London-based careers platform. This partnership enables students and graduates to access free virtual work experience opportunities with global firms such as Amazon, Barclays, Deloitte, and Rolls-Royce.

"As of today, every EKSU student and graduate can access free virtual work experiences... We are building EKSU graduates who are globally competitive — already credentialed, already investible, already ready," he asserted.

Advice to Graduates and Future Outlook

Addressing the graduating Class of 2026, Dr. Olowolafe urged them to embrace hard work, humility, and integrity as guiding principles for success. This digital transformation drive is part of a broader vision to enhance EKSU's academic offerings and ensure its graduates are well-prepared for the global job market.

The initiatives underscore a commitment to leveraging technology and industry collaborations to foster a more dynamic and competitive educational environment at Ekiti State University.
