FUTA Graduate Who Scored 192 in UTME Posts Final Year CGPA, Goes Viral
A graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has captured widespread attention on social media by sharing his academic journey, which began with a low Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score and culminated in an impressive final year CGPA. Moses Udah, the individual in question, took to his LinkedIn page to recount his experiences, sparking a viral discussion about perseverance and academic success.
From Disappointment to Determination
Moses Udah explained that he took the UTME in 2019, scoring 192 out of 400, which was far below his expectations. He had initially hoped to study Mathematics at the University of Ibadan (UNIBADAN), but this dream seemed to collapse due to his exam result. In a moment of discouragement, he felt lost and uncertain about his future direction.
However, his perspective shifted after a conversation with an individual who advised him to consider FUTA. The person told him, "Have you heard about FUTA? You don’t have to be exceptionally brilliant before entering FUTA, but FUTA will transform you into a world-class student. Your score is enough, Moses." These words provided hope and redirected his path, leading him to enroll at FUTA with renewed conviction.
Academic Transformation at FUTA
Upon gaining admission to FUTA, Moses faced challenges in his first year, lacking mentorship and clear guidance. He ended 100 level with a 4.41 GPA and 4.43 CGPA, which he considered good but not the excellence he envisioned. Everything changed in 200 level when he received mentorship from Demilade Aliu and Abdulwahab Ridwan, coupled with inspiring teaching from his Mathematics (MTS) lecturers.
This support helped him strengthen his confidence, sharpen his goals, and deepen his passion for mathematics. Over six years, he achieved remarkable academic feats, including being on the Dean’s List for eight out of ten semesters, earning three perfect 5.0 GPAs (the highest in his set), and scoring 80+ in 23 courses and 90+ in six courses. He graduated as the second overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.72.
Beyond Academics: Leadership and Skills
Moses also engaged in various extracurricular activities, such as lecturing over 500 100-level students twice and more than 200 300-level students. He became proficient in technical tools like Matlab, Maple, R, Python, and LaTeX, and was recognized for solving problems quickly. Additionally, he participated in academic research and publications, served as class representative in his final semester, and was fondly called "Lecturers’ Favourite."
In his post, he expressed gratitude to FUTA, his department, and all dedicated lecturers for shaping him into a professional mathematician. His story has resonated widely, inspiring others to look beyond initial setbacks and pursue their dreams with discipline and purpose.
