LASUSTECH, BAT Group to Launch Tinubu Institute of Politics in 2-3 Months
LASUSTECH Partners BAT Group on Tinubu Politics Institute

In a significant move to address Nigeria's leadership challenges and deepen ideological grounding, the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has entered a strategic partnership with the BAT Ideological Group. The collaboration aims to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies on the university's campus in Ikorodu.

A Strategic Response to Leadership Deficit

The agreement was finalized during a meeting between the leadership of the BAT Ideological Group and the management of LASUSTECH. The group's delegation was led by its Convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, and included Patron Alhaji Tejumade Isa Onirin, Oyo State coordinator Prof. Fayomi Oluyemi, and woman leader Dr. Bisi Akin Alabi.

They were received by the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, alongside principal officers such as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abiodun Denloye, the Registrar, Mr. David Ogungbe, the Bursar, Mr. Oki Olashile, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Owoeye Olaniyi David.

Atoyebi stated that the institute is conceived as a direct and strategic response to the pronounced leadership deficit within Nigeria's political system. He presented a comprehensive proposal for a School of Politics and Policies, designed to become a national centre for ideological training, political leadership development, and advanced governance studies.

Academic Programmes and Historic Significance

The institute is set to offer structured academic programmes spanning diploma, master's, and doctoral levels. It will also provide professional certification, fellowship opportunities, and ideological grooming for both emerging and established political actors.

Atoyebi highlighted the historic nature of the initiative, noting that the institute will be the first university-based political institution in Nigeria to be named after a sitting President. He affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents "not merely a political figure, but an institution of leadership, ideology, and governance whose political philosophy warrants academic interrogation and institutional preservation."

Immediate Take-off and Future Plans

Both parties resolved to commence the academic and professional activities of the institute within two to three months. To facilitate an immediate start, LASUSTECH has provided a temporary facility for the institute's operations.

This interim arrangement will be in place pending the construction of a purpose-built permanent structure. The future building is intended to reflect the stature, vision, and national significance of the project.

Atoyebi commended the management of LASUSTECH for their visionary leadership and institutional courage in aligning with a project dedicated to shaping Nigeria's next generation of leaders. He also acknowledged the unwavering commitment of the BAT Ideological Group members to advancing ideological clarity, political education, and democratic consolidation in the country.
