LASUSTECH Seeks Support for Infrastructure, Student Development

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, has called on philanthropist and elder statesman Tunde Fanimokun to support the institution's infrastructure and student development initiatives.

Odusanya made the appeal during a visit to Fanimokun's residence in Victoria Island, leading a delegation as part of efforts to secure philanthropic partnerships for the university's growth. The visit was facilitated by the DSE Foundation and provided an opportunity to present key areas where support is needed to improve student welfare and strengthen technical education in Lagos State.

Speaking at the meeting, Odusanya emphasized that private-sector involvement remains crucial in addressing challenges facing higher education institutions. He noted that the proposed interventions go beyond physical infrastructure, aiming to create an environment where students can develop practical skills, innovation, and industry-relevant knowledge.

The proposed collaboration aligns with the university's IMPACT agenda, which focuses on infrastructural and manpower development, productivity, academic excellence, community engagement, and support for the Lagos State government's THEME+ agenda.

In response, Fanimokun expressed support for the university's proposals and pledged to contribute to its development efforts. 'I am 100 percent committed to charity. The government is overstretched, and we must come to the rescue. LASUSTECH's proposal aligns perfectly with my philanthropic focus,' he said.

Fanimokun, the pioneer permanent secretary for land matters in Lagos State and a close associate of the late former governor Lateef Jakande, reiterated his commitment to supporting human capacity development. He noted that such interventions would help preserve the legacies of distinguished Nigerians, including Jakande, Abdulwahab Iyanda Folawiyo, and Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru.

The event further strengthened LASUSTECH's partnership with the foundation, celebrated media excellence, and highlighted the role of academic institutions in preserving Nigeria's intellectual and philanthropic heritage through knowledge-sharing initiatives.
