LAUTECH Best Student Gets N1m from Osun APC Candidate

The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has donated N1 million to the overall best graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga.

Oladepo graduated from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering with a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.89 out of 5.0, leading his peers at the university's 18th convocation ceremonies held in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. He is an indigene of Ijimoba in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State.

Donation Announcement

The Chairman of the Media Committee of the Ambo Campaign Organisation, Mr. Remi Omowaiye, announced the donation in Osogbo on Friday, April 24, 2026. He stated that the donation was made to appreciate Oladepo for his outstanding dedication and academic excellence.

Omowaiye explained that the APC governorship candidate was elated by reports of Oladepo's academic achievement. He further noted that by publicly acknowledging how the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) assisted him in financing his studies, Oladepo demonstrated that Nigerian youths can overcome any barriers with the right support.

Support for Youth Education

“On behalf of the campaign organisation, we are making a donation of N1 million to Oladepo. We are also assuring youths in the state of our resolve to always provide the needed assistance for them to excel,” Omowaiye said.

“We also commend Oladepo for coming out to state how the availability of NELFUND assisted him in financing his studies. That alone is a validation of the tremendous impact the initiative introduced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu is having on Nigeria’s educational system.”

Meeting with President Tinubu

It is worth recalling that Oladepo was scheduled to meet President Bola Tinubu after receiving national recognition for his academic prowess. The meeting followed his praise of NELFUND, which generated varied reactions across public and online spaces. A NELFUND official confirmed his invitation, alongside university leadership, ahead of the presidential engagement visit.

Response to Online Backlash

Oladepo also responded to criticism over his public appreciation of NELFUND. He explained that his academic journey was shaped by deep financial hardship, including growing up in a rural village in Osun State. The graduate recounted how scholarships, peer support, and institutional assistance played key roles in helping him complete his engineering degree.
