Oyo College's NBTE Approval Deters Student Protest Agitators, Says Proprietor
The proprietor of Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology, Mr Sunday Owoseni, has stated that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) approval granted to his institution and Oyo State College of Health Technology in Ibadan serves as a significant deterrent to agitators without such accreditation in Oyo State. He emphasized that this official recognition poses a threat to illegal private colleges operating in the region.
Allegations of Incitement by Former Staff
Owoseni alleged that students at his college are being provoked to protest by individuals collaborating with unapproved private health and nursing colleges in Oyo State. In a detailed statement released to the press, he identified some of these instigators as former employees who left the college due to disagreements over accountability, discipline, and operational standards.
These ex-staff members, according to Owoseni, have now aligned with newly established colleges and are sowing discord among students at Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology. He described a recent student protest over concerns about certificate authenticity as unnecessary, asserting that direct communication with school authorities would have clarified the situation.
College's Accreditation and Student Engagement Efforts
The proprietor highlighted that the college holds accredited courses and is actively working towards obtaining accreditation for others. He stressed that the institution consistently engages students on developments related to course accreditation, working diligently to ensure all programs meet required standards.
Owoseni explained that students are encouraged to begin professional courses early in their studies, which should alleviate any fears about their qualifications. He expressed disappointment that despite these efforts, some students were misled into protesting, attributing this to external manipulation rather than genuine grievances.
Security Measures and Community Appreciation
Owoseni revealed that students involved in the protests have named the instigators to college management, and these names have been forwarded to security agencies for investigation. He commended the intervention of local authorities, including the Executive Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Hon Rasaq Fadiran, and the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, along with traditional councils and security agencies, for helping resolve the matter amicably.
He reiterated that the college's primary mission is educational development in Iseyin, not financial profit, underscoring its commitment to fostering growth and learning in the community.
