Shaibu Tasks Freshmen on Discipline as NIS Matriculates 200 Students
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has issued a strong charge to the institution's new students, emphasizing that discipline must be their watchword to achieve success in their chosen professions. This directive came during the matriculation ceremony held yesterday at the school's campus inside the National Stadium in Lagos, where 200 students were formally admitted into various departments.
Reorganization and Renewed Hope Agenda
This admission marks a significant milestone after a one-year hiatus, during which Shaibu suspended the admission process to reorganize the institute's structure. Speaking at the event, Shaibu highlighted that the new intakes are part of a broader effort aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reposition the NIS as a foremost sports institute globally.
"We have completed the administrative phase of repositioning the NIS, and that's why we've opened the admission for the next intakes," Shaibu stated. "This is the first set, and I think they are lucky because we've reorganized everything about the institute, from the lecturers to the curriculum, as part of the plan to turn it into a global institution."
Advice for Success
Shaibu, who previously served as the deputy governor of Edo State, advised the new students to not only be law-abiding but also to cultivate a disciplined approach to their studies and future careers. He stressed that discipline is a critical factor in navigating the challenges of sports education and achieving long-term professional goals.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by key figures, including Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), underscoring the importance of this event in the sports sector. The reorganization efforts are expected to enhance the quality of education and training at NIS, contributing to Nigeria's sports development.
