Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation Unveils Major Tech Scholarship Initiative for 1,000 Nigerian Youths
The Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation, in partnership with leading technology firms including TD Africa, Konga Group, Zinox Technologies, and Task Systems, has officially announced the launch of a groundbreaking scholarship program. This initiative is designed to empower 1,000 exceptional and indigent Nigerian students, often referred to as whiz-kids, by providing them with opportunities to pursue studies in the field of technology.
Application Portal Launch and Technical Enhancements
The dedicated application portal for the scholarship was initially planned to go live on April 22 but has been rescheduled to April 27, 2026. This delay is due to final technical enhancements aimed at ensuring a seamless, secure, and transparent application process for candidates across Nigeria. The foundation emphasizes its commitment to delivering a user-friendly experience that minimizes barriers for prospective applicants.
Vision and Commitment from Tech Icon Leo Stan Ekeh
This scholarship program was first unveiled on February 22, 2025, coinciding with the 70th birthday of Leo Stan Ekeh, Africa's foremost tech icon and Chairman of Zinox Group. Ekeh has expressed a deep commitment to national development and youth empowerment, choosing to channel resources into initiatives that create long-term economic impact. The program offers university scholarships to indigent but brilliant Nigerian youths to study Computer Science in federal institutions, reflecting Ekeh's dedication to fostering sustainable growth in the technology sector.
Building on a Legacy of Training and Empowerment
Over the past four decades, Leo Stan Ekeh and his companies have trained over 6,709 beneficiaries, building a strong legacy of empowerment. With this new scholarship, the goal is to nurture a new generation of highly skilled technology professionals who can support both the private and public sectors. Ekeh envisions this initiative as a way to position Nigeria for greater competitiveness in the global digital economy, aiming to alter the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through disruptive capacity within the technology ecosystem.
Comprehensive Support Beyond Financial Aid
The scholarship program is designed to go beyond mere financial assistance, offering beneficiaries access to a comprehensive ecosystem supported by distinguished partners. Recipients will receive technical support, mentorship from successful members of the Nigeria Compute Society, and industry exposure to ensure they acquire practical, market-relevant skills. This multi-faceted approach ensures that scholars gain not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience and professional networks, which are crucial for propelling their careers in technology.
By investing in the education and development of young tech talents, the Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation and its partners aim to drive innovation and economic growth, ultimately contributing to a more robust and competitive Nigerian technology landscape.
