UI First Class Couple Share Love Story and Study Secrets

Oluwasegun Akinwola and Jacintha Nosazeogie, coursemates-turned-lovers, have captured the hearts of many after emerging as the best male and female graduating students in the physiotherapy department at the University of Ibadan (UI). The duo was recently inducted into the physiotherapy profession on May 19, 2026, and their story has gone viral on social media.

How They Met

In an exclusive chat with Legit.ng, Oluwasegun shared the story of how he first met Jacintha. He recalled that they did not talk much in their first year, but one day he walked her to her destination. She mentioned her love for drawing and writing, which sparked his interest. Later, on the night of the anonymous event, he texted her after seeing mean comments about her. They then stopped talking for a long time.

On the day before her birthday, he discovered her birthday and messaged her to ask if she had plans. Surprisingly, she agreed to hang out with him. They had a fun day filled with conversation, food, and games. Oluwasegun realized he liked her and told his friends. During the 2022 ASUU strike, he confessed his feelings but was rejected due to distance and her lack of familiarity with him.

Love Blossoms

Months later, Jacintha reached out to him for help reviewing a design. Initially reluctant, Oluwasegun eventually provided a detailed review, which led to daily conversations and phone calls. When the strike ended in October, they met in anatomy class and decided to hang out. They confessed their mutual feelings, and he asked her out a week later, to which she agreed.

Jacintha confirmed the account, noting that the beauty of their relationship was that they were not trying too hard. They opened their hearts to the possibility that it might end, but it never did. After the strike, they spent more time together physically, and he officially asked her to be his girlfriend in November.

Impact on Studies

Oluwasegun, who scored nine A1s in his O-levels, credited Jacintha for positively impacting his studies. He described her as organized and punctual, ensuring they never missed classes or exams. She would wait outside his hostel 30 minutes before each class, and he had to rush to meet up. Jacintha also took detailed notes in class, capturing important points that lecturers emphasized.

Jacintha, on the other hand, said the relationship boosted her academic strength. They discussed desired grades for each course and worked together to achieve them. She credited Oluwasegun for changing her approach to answering exam questions, encouraging her to write everything she knew rather than just a few lines. This advice significantly improved her grades.

Achieving Their Dream

The couple aspired to become the best graduating male and female students in their department. Jacintha acknowledged that she could not have achieved the female best graduating student title without Oluwasegun's support and encouragement. Their story serves as an inspiration to many young Nigerians.
