A young lady named Rejoice Akinde has celebrated her graduation from the University of Ibadan with a degree in nursing, becoming a registered nurse. She opened up about her initial dream of studying electrical engineering and why she changed her mind.
From Engineering to Nursing
On her LinkedIn page, Rejoice Akinde revealed that she had always wanted to study electrical engineering because she loved fixing things herself. However, her struggles with mathematics and physics in senior secondary school led her to shift her interest to health and medical sciences. She discovered that nursing could be studied at the university level, not just in nursing schools, and she gained admission with her first JAMB attempt.
A Rollercoaster Journey
She described her academic journey as a rollercoaster, marked by long waits due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ASUU strikes. During an eight-month strike, she conceptualized and began groundwork for The Sanity Initiative. She used the time for deep reflection, writing, and prayer, which helped her clarify her life goals. Despite the challenges, she proudly stated, "I passed through school and school passed through me."
She also listed her achievements at the University of Ibadan, including leadership positions she held.

Her story triggered reactions on social media, with many people celebrating her nursing induction. Olayinka Olamide Olowookere commented, "Congratulations. We rejoice in the Lord." Gracious Araoye said, "Now you are rocking your stethoscope. Congratulationsss ma." Emmanuel Dansu added, "Congratulations, sister."
