Tosin Iyanuoluwa Odunewu, a first-class graduate from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has achieved an unprecedented academic milestone by securing a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.89 in the Mass Communication programme. This remarkable result stands as the highest in the history of the department at the Lagos-based federal university, marking a significant achievement during the 2024-2025 academic session.
Secrets to Academic Excellence Revealed
In an exclusive interview, Odunewu shared the strategies behind her success, emphasizing the importance of consistency and dedication. She revealed that adhering to a strict reading timetable was crucial to her accomplishment. "I did not joke with my reading timetable. No matter how tight my schedule was, I tried to read every day, even if it was just for five or ten minutes. That consistency made a difference over time," she explained. Odunewu believes that many students underestimate the impact of regular, short study sessions, which she credits for her outstanding performance.
Reflecting on her achievement, Odunewu described it as amazing and deeply fulfilling. "At first, it did not feel real. It felt almost surreal, like it had not truly happened. But when convocation was close, it became real. I realised that I had achieved something truly significant and meaningful," she stated. Her journey to this feat began with a UTME score of 272 and 21 points in the Post-UTME, though she initially aimed for Law but switched to Mass Communication due to being 1.3 points short of the catchment requirement.
