Martell's 'Swift Ascendant' Sculpture Activates Abuja in Nationwide Art Campaign
Martell has expanded its experiential campaign, Martell On The Move, to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, introducing a striking 14-foot traveling art installation titled The Swift Ascendant. This initiative aims to deepen engagement with Nigeria's vibrant creative and nightlife ecosystems, leveraging art and culture as central vehicles for consumer connection.
Nationwide Roadshow Gains Momentum
Originating in Lagos, the campaign is structured as a nationwide roadshow, designed to traverse key Nigerian cities. At its core lies The Swift Ascendant, a monumental sculpture inspired by Martell's iconic swift symbol, which represents freedom, movement, and bold self-expression. The brand articulates the concept of the "Standout Swift" as individuals who defy conventions and carve unique paths, a theme vividly reflected in the installation's design and messaging.
Collaborative Artistry and Sustainability Focus
The artwork is a collaborative effort with renowned Nigerian sculptor Dotun Popoola, crafted entirely from scrap and discarded metal. This material choice underscores a growing emphasis on sustainability and reinvention, positioning the piece as both a creative masterpiece and an environmental statement. By repurposing waste, the installation highlights Martell's commitment to innovative and eco-conscious practices.
Abuja Activation and Brand Experience
The Abuja activation reached its peak on March 21 at Fuego Lifestyle, where guests were immersed in a curated brand experience. The event featured:
- Live music performances
- Signature cocktails inspired by Martell's heritage
- A setting that mirrored the sculpture's industrial aesthetic
This immersive environment allowed attendees to engage with the art on a sensory level, enhancing the overall impact of the campaign.
Strategic Insights from Brand Leadership
Evane Chenuet, Marketing Director at Pernod Ricard Nigeria, commented on the initiative, noting that Abuja was chosen for its alignment with the campaign's themes of ambition and boundary-pushing expression. "We brought The Swift Ascendant to Abuja because the city understands ambition, audacity, and what it means to push boundaries," she stated. "Working with Dotun Popoola enabled us to create something raw and authentic, reflecting the House of Martell's over 300-year legacy of challenging the status quo. When art and atmosphere align, the experience transcends the visual, becoming something people can genuinely feel."
Chenuet added that this activation exemplifies Martell's strategy of blending historical heritage with contemporary edges to resonate with younger, culturally attuned audiences across Nigeria.
Ongoing Engagement and Social Media Call
As the campaign continues its journey, Martell has encouraged Abuja residents to interact with the moving installation as it tours the city. The brand has called on the public to share photos and videos of the sculpture on social media platforms, using the hashtags #MartellOnTheMove and #BeTheStandoutSwift. This digital engagement aims to amplify the campaign's reach and foster a community around the themes of creativity and self-expression.
With The Swift Ascendant set to travel further across Nigeria, Martell's campaign promises to leave a lasting impression on the nation's cultural landscape, promoting sustainability, artistic innovation, and bold individuality.
