Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has publicly praised the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, for receiving a prestigious award from the media community.
Recognition for Strengthening Media Ties
The Nigerian National Committee of the International Press Institute (IPI) honoured Mr. Ajayi at its annual conference in Abuja earlier this month. In a statement released from Abeokuta on Saturday, Governor Abiodun described the award as a significant validation of the DSS chief's professional conduct.
He emphasised that the recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from a respected media institution known for its societal oversight role. The governor noted that President Bola Tinubu also acknowledged the evolving relationship between security agencies and the media at the same event.
A Testament to Professionalism and Democratic Values
Governor Abiodun stated that the award clearly acknowledges Mr. Ajayi's efforts in fostering constructive engagement between journalists and security operatives. The ultimate goal, he said, is to build a united and resilient front against the nation's security challenges.
"This honour reflects the Director-General's commitment to upholding human rights, press freedom, and the rule of law," Abiodun remarked. He stressed that an endorsement from the media community carries considerable weight and signals a positive shift.
Inspiring Transparency and Good Governance
The governor observed that since his appointment, the DSS chief has anchored his leadership on principles of professionalism, decency, and discipline. This approach has cultivated a relationship of mutual respect with the press.
"This award is well-deserved and serves as an inspiration to public officials across Nigeria to uphold transparency, accountability, and good governance," Abiodun said. He reiterated that a free, responsible, and vibrant press is indispensable for national development.
Concluding his statement, Governor Abiodun expressed confidence that the collaboration between the Ogun State Government and the DSS would continue to grow stronger. He wished Mr. Ajayi continued success in advancing national security in alignment with democratic principles.
