A prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist from Anambra State, Kenneth Ifekudu, has been recognised for his extensive charitable works with a significant traditional title. The honour, named 'Ife Abata' which translates to 'Light Has Come', was bestowed upon him in a vibrant ceremony in Ebonyi State.
Royal Recognition for Community Development
The chieftaincy title was conferred by His Royal Highness, Eze Michael Nwankwo, JP, the Ezeudo II of Amike Autonomous Community, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The event, held on 28 December 2025, drew a large crowd of traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, and admirers who came to celebrate what many described as a fitting tribute to Ifekudu's dedication.
In his address, the monarch stated that the decision to honour Ifekudu followed a detailed evaluation of his contributions to the Amike Community and society at large. He specifically praised the businessman for his pivotal role in facilitating the construction of access roads and supporting other critical infrastructure. These projects have reportedly eased transportation, stimulated local economies, and enhanced living standards for residents.
A Symbol of Hope and a Call for More Philanthropy
Eze Nwankwo elaborated that the Ife Abata title symbolises hope, progress, and renewed faith in community advancement—values he said Ifekudu personifies. The royal father used the occasion to challenge other affluent individuals and corporate leaders to follow Ifekudu's example by directly investing in projects that benefit ordinary citizens. He emphasised that sustainable development is achieved through active partnerships between private resources and community needs.
"Ifekudu is known for his massive philanthropy and humanitarian works in his community, Ozubulu in Anambra State and beyond," the Eze said. "He is known to have brought succour and laughter to many families. Not long ago, he empowered over 100 persons with mini trucks to support their livelihoods, in response to the growing economic challenges and high cost of living facing families across Nigeria."
Ifekudu's Pledge to Do More
In his acceptance speech, Kenneth Ifekudu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Leeds Limited, expressed profound gratitude to the traditional institution and the people of Amike. He described the honour not as a culmination, but as a call to increased service.
He reaffirmed his commitment to championing initiatives that drive infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and social welfare. Ifekudu pledged to continue leveraging his resources and influence to bring literal and metaphorical "light" to under-served communities across Nigeria.
The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including federal lawmakers who accompanied the honouree. Notable attendees were:
- Hon. Peter Uzokwe (representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency)
- Hon. Chinedu Oga (representing Ikwo and Ezza South Federal Constituency)
- Hon. Joseph Nwobasi (representing Ezza North Federal Constituency)
