A barber from Calabar, Ola Clovis Abang, has opened up about his emotional connection with the late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, sharing how the actor transformed his life and career. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Abang detailed his journey from obscurity to recognition, all thanks to the actor's trust and generosity.
First Encounter at a Hotel
Abang recounted that he first met Ekubo through the windows of Mt. Hotel. At the time, he was at a low point, feeling overlooked and doubted by many. However, Ekubo, a well-known figure, noticed him and offered an opportunity when no one else did. The actor placed trust in Abang by allowing him to work with him and spend time with him.
A Life-Changing Relationship
Despite not knowing the actor beforehand, Abang was treated with respect from the very beginning. He described the encounter as a blessing that positively influenced his life. The connection opened doors that Abang could not have accessed on his own, leading to recognition and respect for his work as a barber in his hometown.
Abang emphasized that what affected him most was not the fame but the actor's kindness and generosity. After only a second appointment, he was invited to Ekubo's home, where he was fed, encouraged, and introduced to individuals who later became his most important clients and supporters, including someone referred to as King Khaz.
Remembering Ekubo's Light
Abang noted that Ekubo carried a sense of light and shared it without reservation. He expressed gratitude for the belief shown in his skill at a time when many had doubted him, and for the encouragement, opportunities, and acts of kindness he received. The young man concluded by saying that he would continue to remember the light Ekubo had shown him, and that he missed him greatly.
The post has since gone viral, with social media users mourning the late actor's death and sharing their own memories of his impact. Ekubo's final social media post, which showed love for his culture, also drew emotional reactions. A lady who knew Ekubo for over 20 years spoke about the pain he went through privately, and a Nigerian lady shared a heartbreaking chat about the actor after news of his demise spread.
