Burna Boy Acquires Custom Bugatti Chiron Worth N9 Billion
Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has set social media ablaze after announcing his acquisition of a rare, customized Bugatti Chiron valued at approximately N9 billion. The singer made the revelation during his headline performance at the Afronation concert in Portugal on Friday, July 3, 2026, while freestyling on stage.
Burna Boy Claps Back at Critics
During his set, Burna Boy fired back at critics who questioned the practicality of his expensive purchase. He rapped: "I buy Bugatti them ask which road I go drive am, no be today we dey do road like Julius Berger." The comment was a pointed reference to Nigeria's poor road infrastructure and the construction company Julius Berger, implying that his critics should focus on road repairs rather than his spending.
World's First Widebody Bugatti Chiron
The custom car was unveiled in a video shared by car dealer Abujacar, featuring a representative from Dubai-based luxury customization shop Venuum. The modifications include Burna Boy's name engraved on the rear spoiler, making it a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Venuum described the project as a "fully bespoke vision" that elevates the standard Bugatti Chiron into a "completely different dimension." The shop claims this is the world’s first widebody Bugatti Chiron, adding a unique piece to the singer’s exotic car collection.
Mixed Reactions from Fans and Critics
The news sparked a wave of reactions on social media. User @TheDarkSide012 praised Burna Boy's raw talent, saying: "This is burna without sampling, without 17 writers, without multiple guys around to help him out. Raw talent." However, others were skeptical. @kuti__money questioned: "Which bugatti u buy this man, something wey u go still returned to the owner? Naso u use mouth knack sophia egbeuje that time." Meanwhile, @Biggie_ESQ called Burna Boy's Julius Berger line "beyond moronic." @amyomzzy expressed nostalgia: "He Dey pain me if i remember say this wiz and this guy no too close again… bro I like the two of them scatter haaa." And @MnemonicMnemon6 joked: "If the Bugatti’s GPS says 'turn left at the stage,' you’ll be the only one cruising past Burna’s verses."
Birthday Celebration and Mother's Wish
The Bugatti news comes shortly after Burna Boy celebrated his 35th birthday with family and friends. A highlight was his mother's wish as he blew out the candles: she told him not to wish for a car since he already has more than enough, and instead urged him to find a wife.
Burna Boy Breaks Billboard Hot 100 Record
In addition to the car buzz, Burna Boy recently broke a major tie with fellow singer Tems to secure the most Billboard U.S. Hot 100 entries by an African artist. He reached his ninth entry on the chart after his World Cup collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira debuted at number 75. He also made history as the first African artist to maintain at least one charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years.
