Femi Adebayo's Family Addresses Ex-Wife's Eviction and Neglect Allegations

The family of prominent Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has publicly addressed the controversial eviction of his estranged wife, Omotayo Sanusi, widely known as Iyan Aladuke, from a Lagos property. This development comes after weeks of intense online speculation and accusations against the actor regarding his treatment of his former partner.

Bank Foreclosure, Not Deliberate Eviction

According to Mrs Taiwo Abdulmalik, a close family relative who spoke exclusively to The PUNCH, the eviction was not a deliberate act by Adebayo but rather the result of a bank recovery process. Abdulmalik explained that the actor had purchased the property using a bank loan, and when repayment challenges emerged, the financial institution initiated foreclosure proceedings.

"She knew Femi bought the property with a loan and that the bank was coming for recovery. Those properties belong to him alone, and he is still paying heavy principal and interest," Abdulmalik stated emphatically. She further revealed that Sanusi had been aware of the impending bank action for several months before the actual eviction occurred.

Immediate Relocation and Financial Support

The family representative detailed how Adebayo ensured his estranged wife did not suffer hardship following the bank's takeover of the property. "Immediately the bank took over, he made sure she, her family members living with her, and her staff were relocated to a short-let apartment. He paid for everything," Abdulmalik confirmed.

She added that the actor had advised Omotayo to find a permanent rental apartment and promised to cover the expenses regardless of the cost. "He told her to look for a house to rent and assured her he would pay. No matter how expensive it was," the family member reiterated, emphasizing Adebayo's commitment to his family's welfare.

Land Purchase and Alleged Sale

In a surprising revelation, Abdulmalik disclosed that in 2022, Adebayo had purchased a parcel of land adjacent to Sanusi's shop on Muritala Muhammed Way and registered it in her name as a financial safety net. "He believed that land would serve as her backup. It was shocking when she told him, shortly after the bank foreclosure, that she had sold the land and spent the money," she expressed with apparent disappointment.

Addressing Neglect Claims

Responding to widespread allegations that Adebayo had neglected his family responsibilities, the family representative maintained that the actor has been consistently supportive of his son. "He has never stopped taking care of his son. He loves his children dearly and is very involved in their lives," Abdulmalik asserted.

She provided specific evidence of this support, revealing that Adebayo spent approximately $50,000 in 2024 to fly his son to India for critical medical treatment. "He doesn't publicise these things because he is a family man," she added, suggesting the actor prefers to handle such matters privately.

Ex-Wife's Response and Privacy Concerns

When contacted for comment on these allegations, Omotayo Sanusi declined to address the specific claims, insisting the matter remains private. She indicated that the situation only gained public attention because the eviction occurred openly, and people are free to interpret events according to their perspectives.

The family's detailed statement represents their effort to counter what they describe as an incomplete narrative circulating online regarding Adebayo's actions and character. This development adds new dimensions to the ongoing discussion about celebrity relationships, financial responsibilities, and public perception in Nigeria's entertainment industry.
