A Nigerian lady has shared a deeply emotional account of her family's hardship after being forced to live outdoors with her husband and two children. In a video posted on Instagram by blogger Tunde Ednut, the woman detailed how her family turned their backs on her due to her husband's financial struggles.
Background of the Struggle
According to the lady, her husband had been working as a driver before traveling to attend his father's funeral, which kept him away for about three months. Upon his return, he discovered that his position had already been given to someone else. This job had been their primary source of income, and without it, they struggled to afford food.
The woman also tried to contribute by selling small items on the street, but her limited capital eventually ran out. She recounted that the family sometimes went without meals for up to a month at a time. After falling behind on rent, their landlord evicted them in December of the previous year, placing their belongings outside. Since January, the family has been sleeping outdoors.
Family Rejection and Resilience
The lady explained that her grandmother, who lived nearby, never approved of her marriage because of her husband's financial situation. Despite his efforts to provide during her pregnancy, the grandmother insisted she leave if she intended to stay with him. Eventually, she was sent away.
Despite the ridicule from passersby who laughed and scorned them, the lady remains steadfast. She described her husband as hardworking and responsible, noting that even when he earned very little, he ensured she and the children ate first. She said, "I have no guarantee that another man would treat me better. I am proud of him, and we are managing as a family."
Living Conditions and Hopes
The family sleeps under a tarpaulin, struggling to keep the children warm at night and dealing with rain and mosquitoes. Their eldest son recently fell ill, and they managed to raise money quickly for his treatment. The lady's greatest hope is to secure a small room where they can live without fear of exposure to the elements.
