Nigerian politician Ned Nwoko has issued a strong rebuttal after his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, publicly shared a negative drug test result to counter his allegations of substance abuse.
The Public Dispute Over Drug Use Allegations
The controversy escalated when Regina Daniels voluntarily underwent a drug test in the United Kingdom. The result, which she shared publicly, indicated no traces of drugs in her system. The actress stated her primary motivation was to set the record straight for her children, wanting them to know the truth and be proud of her.
Ned Nwoko's Detailed Counter-Argument
Reacting to this development, Senator Ned Nwoko took to social media with a lengthy statement, fundamentally rejecting the implication of the single test. His core argument was encapsulated in the phrase: "DONT BE FOOLED: TEMPORARY ABSTINENCE IS NOT SOBRIETY."
He elaborated that a negative test taken at a chosen time does not invalidate prior findings. Nwoko claimed that earlier assessments, conducted by two independent and reputable centres in Nigeria and South Africa, had established evidence of drug and alcohol use. He emphasized that these reports were professionally compiled and formally documented, and would be presented and defended in court, with the involved centres subpoenaed to testify.
"Presenting a later negative result as proof that no prior use occurred is misleading and disingenuous," he wrote. "At best, it reflects abstinence over a period of time."
Focus on Recovery and Court Proceedings
Nwoko's statement shifted focus to the need for genuine accountability and sustained recovery efforts, which he argued are not demonstrated by social media posts. He revealed that long before the matter became public, he had sought private rehabilitation options for structured therapy, which he claimed failed due to denial.
He referenced a previous court judgment that granted him custody of the children and dismissed human rights abuse claims. According to Nwoko, the court order mandated that Regina Daniels undergo supervised therapy, providing evidence of compliance. He stated he gave her a discreet window to seek help quietly to maintain a meaningful relationship with their children.
Nwoko concluded by asserting that any test, including the one from the UK, would face rigorous scrutiny in court. He suggested the court would likely appoint a credible laboratory to verify all claims independently. "It is time for reality supported by relevant, credible and admissible evidence," he stated, bringing the public dispute back to the impending legal arena.
