Joy Chukwu-Osazuwa, a Nigerian woman based in Canada, has earned a PhD degree and publicly celebrated her husband for his unwavering support and career sacrifices that made her achievement possible. The couple's relocation journey and partnership have drawn widespread admiration on social media.
Husband's Career Sacrifices for Wife's PhD
Identified as @thejoychukso on TikTok, Joy shared that her husband stayed behind in Lagos to care for their one-year-old and two-year-old children when she first relocated to Canada. She detailed how he took on a cleaning job just two days after landing in Canada to quickly take over paying their bills. Later, he resigned from two professional jobs because her PhD schedule was too demanding and inflexible.
According to Joy, her husband consistently chose their family over his career, taking up flexible hustles like food delivery to be fully present for their children, run their home, and give her the space to complete her PhD. She emphasized that he never complained throughout the process.
Full Household Support
Joy explained that her husband took over all household responsibilities, including bathing the children, preparing them for school, doing school runs, grocery shopping, cooking, and even taking care of her. She described him as her alarm clock, reminder system, and sounding board.
In her words: "My man took over fully!!! From bathing our kids and prepping them for school, to school runs, to showing up at the kid's school when necessary, to doing groceries, cooking and even taking care of me. He became my alarm clock, my reminder system and my sounding board. Man like Mr. O!!!"
The post was captioned: "The best part of my story is you, @omorosazuwa. People see the PhD. I see the man who made it possible."
